My granddaughter is truly an old soul. I've called her "little bit" almost since day one but I should probably call her "little me". I see so much of myself in her. Of course, it doesn't hurt that she wants to hang out with me and do most things that I do. This past summer she watched me cross=stitch and she wanted to learn how, so off we went to the needlework's store and bought her a starter kit. She's been sitting at the piano for longer periods of time when she comes to visit. We have an instruction book that allows me to play a part against her and we put on mini concerts. Of course, now that the weather is getting cooler and
the knitting needles have come out, she wants to learn that too. It works great in this direction. The problem I have is when she wants to go the opposite way.
Last week she decided that I should be doing splits with her. Now, I don't mind playing Barbie's and tea parties. I will even still play "Go, Fish", and "Memory" but you have to draw the line somewhere. I am not her "Big Me". I can't contort my body like her and do splits. She has hysterics watching me trying to keep up with "Let's Dance" on the Wii. But in my own defense, if they had told me that I only had to match one arm to score well, I would have done much better.
But in spite of all that, she is such a blessing to me. Sean doesn't spend as much time with G-ma (as he calls me) anymore. He's sixteen and needs to be with his friends and I totally understand that. At sixteen, I was working in a lounge and only saw my grandparents every other week, maybe. They are so different and are such a blessing. In this month of Thanksgiving, my heart overflows. God has given me so much. Even the tough times are gifts that make you appreciate the goodness He has bestowed upon you. Take your spouses, children, grandchildren and friends and give them a big hug. Tell them you love them as often as you can. And give it up to the Father from whom all things come.
